SAFETY PLANS  & EVENT SANCTIONING FORMS

As part of our commitment to promoting safety on the water, and to satisfy the requirements to be insured through CKBC, we are in the process of developing safety plans for some of our most common sites. See below.

SELF RANKING SYSTEM

Prior to joining whitewater trips, you will be asked to rank yourself on a three-point scale. This will help us plan to have enough resources support all the members of the trip. Note that your ranking may change depending on the river class and level. Make sure you are also considering the time since you last paddled, your wellness (injuries, headspace, life events), and any other factors that may affect your decision making on the day of the paddling trip.

+1  EXPERIENCED 

You have confidence supporting with rescues for other less experienced paddlers. 

You have confidence in your skills/ability to manage yourself and your gear on the river.

You have experience running this rivers  or rivers of similar size and difficulty.

You have a solid roll.

You would feel confident paddling this river independently of this event.

0 INTERMEDIATE

You do not necessarily have the confidence to support in rescues or emergency situations. 

You have confidence in your skills/ability to manage yourself and your gear on the river

You have experience running this rivers  or rivers of similar size and difficulty

You have a solid roll.

You would feel confident paddling this river independently of this event.

-1  BEGINNER

You do not have confidence in your skills/ability to manage yourself and your gear on the river.

You do not have confidence in your ability  to roll reliably on rivers of this size and difficulty. 

You would not feel comfortable supporting with rescues.

You do not know enough about your own ability or the difficulty of the river.
